Intercalation

A method of synchronising a lunar calendar with a solar year by adding extra days or months. Extra days are known as intercalary days and extra months are known as intercalary. Intercalation is the source of leap years, or the addition of an extra day or other period of time in order to reconcile the solar year with that of the calendar we use.
