Jetting is the snake-like stream of polymer melt that occurs when the melt is pushed at a high velocity through restrictive areas (such as the nozzle, runner, or gate), into open, thicker areas, without forming contact with the mould wall.

In the jet, contact points form between the folds of melt, creating small welds. Jetting can lead to part weakness, surface blemishes, and internal defects.
