Kjeldahl method
The most commonly used procedure for determining the nitrogen content of a sample. The sample is heated with concentrated sulphuric acid and a catalyst, commonly mercury, and the nitrogen is converted to ammonia. The digest is made alkaline, and the ammonia distilled off and measured. Named after the originator of the procedure.
