Lexical item
A lexical item is a unit of language representing a particular area of meaning which has a unique pattern of co-occurrence with other lexical items. It cannot always be identified with an orthographic word' (1970: 9) and lists morphemes, homographs, paradigmatically associated words (e.g. kick, kicks, kicking, kicked), syntagmatically associated words (run to seed), and multiverbal items (e.g. idioms) as candidates.
