Mating-type switching
A phenomenon in the behaviour of yeast and other organisms that rapidly change from the haploid to the diploid state. In yeast the two mating types are a and α; when two a or two α cells mate, the diploid form results in daughter cells of mating type opposite to that of the parent cells.
