Methylation-specific PCR (M-PCR)

A technique for mapping methylation patterns of CpG islands of genomic DNA. Genomic DNA is first treated with sodium bisulphite (NaHSO3) to convert cystosine residues, but not 5-methylcytosine residues, into uridines. Primers specific for the untreated sequence will amplify the methylated sequence for detection, while pirmers for the treated sequence will amplify the unmethylated sequence.
