Moment of inertia
A measure of the "opposition to rotation" around a fixed axis that a rigid body presents to a torque applied about that axis. The concept is used in analysing the dynamics of systems in which rotation occurs, for example, in attitude control of spacecraft. It extends naturally into quantum mechanics and the notion of quantization of rotational energy.
