Near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy

In biology and medicine, a non-invasive technique for monitoring physiological parameters such as blood flow, cell volume and oxygenation level of redox molecules. NIR radiation penetrates tissues up to several centimetres; transmitted or reflected light of the same wavelength, or scattered light of a longer wavelength (e.g. from a laser Doppler flowmetry device) is collected and analyzed.
