Oncoprotein
The translation product of an oncogene; a regulator of cellular processes, which if the gene is mutated, results in uncontrolled growth (cancer). Oncoproteins may be embedded in the plasma membrane and serve as receptors, reside in the cytosol and be involved in signal transduction, often associated with a tyrosine kinase activity, or may be found in the nucleus and be directly involved in gene regulation.
