The sources of spacecraft particulate debris are Earth, spacecraft, and space environments. Earth particulate is mostly dust, sand, and rocket exhaust. Sources are materials spalled by cosmic dust impacts on materials and the solar array, outgassing products, and slip rings. Space environment consists of residues that form the space plasma, cosmic dust of masses less than one gram, micrometeoroids, and meteoroids.
