Passing track

A train can enter a station on the passing track while the main track is used (as opposed to the secondary line) to park another train, so that it can be overtaken by the train entering on the passing track. Passing tracks can also be found between stations and are intended for parking non-priority trains (most often freight trains) to make way for the faster trains.
