Genus of about 600 species of erect or creeping, semi-succulent annuals and evergreen perennials, sometimes woody at the base, found in rainforest throughout tropical regions worlwide, except Australia. The many species of Pilea (Aluminium Plant) grow best in an east window or a medium light intensity. In a south window, protection from the sun is needed. Keep the soil moderately moist and use a house plant fertiliser according to label directions. The plants are intolerant of low humidity. Ideal temperatures are 62 to 65 F at night and up to 85 F during the day.
