quarter-life crisis

A period in a person's life when they enter adulthood and are plagued with anxiety and fears about the pressures of the adult world, and how they can fit into it.

It is believed that the number of people experiencing such a crisis is rising steadily along with the figure of unemployment amongst 16-24 year olds. Such individuals are having their entry into the adult world stunted and are falling into depression as a result.
