Relative fluorescence unit (RFU)

A unit of measurement used in electrophoreses methods employing fluorescence detection. Fluorescence is detected on the CCD array as the labelled fragments, separated in the capillary by electrophoresis, and excited by the laser, pass the detection window. The software interprets the results, calculating the size or quantity of the fragments from the fluorescence intensity at each data point.
