A gradient obtained after a discrimination between one stimulus correlated with reinforcement and another correlated with extinction (occasionally, between two stimuli correlated with different reinforcement schedules), usually with both stimuli represented on the continuum along which the gradient is determined. It often includes a peak shift, a displacement of the point of maximum responding to one side of the reinforcement stimulus in a direction away from the extinction stimulus.
