During sorting operations, all the cuts directed towards the same marshalling track are taken care of by the shunting gang, who couple them together and then haul them towards the departure sidings. Route formation ends with an inspection of the waggons and the goods loaded (securing, gauge…), coupling the locomotive at the head, brake tests and fitting of the signals at the rear.
