In the synthesis of secretory, endoplasmic reticulum (ER), Golgi apparatus, lysosomal and integral membrane proteins, a ribonucleoprotein that recognises a signal sequence and prevents further translation until the docking protein (SRP receptor) of the ER can direct the growing polypeptide across the membrane of the ER.
