Sliding filament model
A conceptualization of muscle contraction in which thick filaments in the centre of a sarcomere are surrounded by thin filaments that are attached to the ends of the sarcomere and extend towards its center. Stimulation drives the overlap of the thick and thin filaments and thus pulls the ends of the sarcomere towards the center.
