Somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT)
An experimental technique for cloning an organism. Potentially, the technique can be adapted to growing an exactly compatable tissue or organ for transplantation, and would then be called therapeutic cloning. The nucleus of a somatic cell from the organism to be cloned is inserted into an enucleated host ovum and the hybrid is allowed to develop to the blastocyte level in vitro or to gestation inside the host.
