Splitting-up
When splitting up cars as part of a sorting operation, the different cuts are pushed from the reception sidings to the hump. The cuts, moving under the effect of gravity, are directed towards the marshalling tracks corresponding to their destination. They are slowed using rail brakes (main and secondary) before bumping the cuts already in place. The train is then taken care of by the route formation team.
