A secondary nucleotide sequence specificity of an endonuclease. After the canonical specificity is established, a library of potential substrates may be created by substituting at each sequence position, all of the other three nucleotide residues. Each such set is written with an asterisk (star) in the place of the substituted nucleotide residue.
