Systolic pressure

The peak pressure in the blood circulatory system when the heart contracts. When the heart beats, blood is forced out into the aorta, increasing the pressure.

Technically, systolic pressure is the maximum arterial pressure during contraction of the heat's left ventricle. The time at which ventricular contraction occurs is called systole. In a blood pressure reading, the systolic pressure is typically the first number recorded.
