Technical rescue refers to special tasks of saving life or property that employ tools and skills going beyond those normally practiced for fire fighting, medical emergency, and rescue. These tasks such as making a confined-space entry, erecting shoring, or pulling a person stuck in a chimney can rarely be adequately trained for every possible rescue event. Nevertheless, preplanning, continuing education, on-the-job learning are critical for a squad or crew to gain functional experience in order to proficiently perform technical rescues.
