The terracotta army which literally means "soldier and horse funerary statues" were constructed during the reign of Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of china. They are of different sizes and have different facial expressions depending on their role and rank. There purpose was to help the emperor rule in his after life, the terracotta are placed in the pits in precise military formation according to rank and duty.
