Thin film transistor (TFT)
Usually made from amorphous silicon, or "a-Si", this controls the on/off voltage to each pixel of an active matrix LCD screen. The fact that each pixel is controlled by its own transistor means that brighter, clearer images, with faster refresh rates are possible.
