The cohort of chains of a branched-chain polysaccharide that all have the same relationship to the branch points. The outer tier of glycogen is all those glucosyl units that are attached in α1→4 bonds that run from the non-reducing ends to the first α1→6 branch points; the second tier is those glycosyl units between the first and second outer branch points, etc.
