Treadmilling
The dynamic state of microtubules, the addition of subunits at one end, and their removal from the opposite end, which may account for the movement of microtubules in the cell. The nucleation site, e.g. at the centromere of a chromosome, the minus end of a microtubule cannot exchange subunits until it is released, which happens frequently, to allow treadmilling to proceed.
