A period of time in either the early or later hours of the day, just before sunrise and after sunset, when the sun is below the horizon but the sky is still illuminated. Beams of light are scattered off of particles in the Earth's atmosphere, causing light to be seen even though the sun is not in the sky. This phenomena happens for a longer period of time in the more northern latitudes; in the far north twilight can lost all night.
