Two-dimensional electrophoresis

Electrophoretic separation of proteins on a solid support by one technique in one dimension, then by another technique in another. For example, proteins are subjected to isoelectric focusing in a long, thin tubular gel, then the developed gel is placed at the top of a sodium dodecyl sulphate/polyacrylamide slab and subjected to gel electrophoresis in the other direction.
