Vacuum distillation

A distillation method which involved reducing the pressure above a liquid mixture to be distilled to less than its vapour pressure (usually less than atmospheric pressure). This causes evaporation of the most volatile liquid(s) - those with the lowest boiling points. This method works on the principle that boiling occurs when a liquid's vapour pressure exceeds the ambient pressure. It can be used with or without heating the solution.
