A large, wildland area where the earth and its community of life are untrammelled by people and where people are visitors who do not remain. An area of undeveloped land which retains its primaeval character and influence without permanent improvements or permanent human habitation and which is protected and managed so as to preserve and protect its natural conditions and life. Many endangered and threatened species need wilderness type areas to carry on their struggle for survival.
