A cloning vector with a yeast that can accept a relatively large fragment of foreign DNA, up to 1 Mb, in yeast cells; a YAC has telomers on each end and a centromere. Their usefulness is limited by the frequency of extraneous sequences that have been imported into the sequence by homologous recombination.
