Crystalline polymers

Crystalline polymers are a family of polymers that are characterised by an ordered arrangement of the molecules which fit closely together. Typically, crystalline polymers are more dense than amorphous polymers. A polymer in a crystalline state is a solid, due to its solid crystals, which have definite geometric form.

Crystalline polymers display an X-ray diffraction pattern. The degree of crystallinity determines the intensity of the pattern. The pattern can be used to identify the polymer.
