The hull or bottom of a ship pledged as security for a loan. If the ship be lost the money is lost unless the lender has covered himself by other means.

The cross axles by which compasses, lamps, stoves and the like are swung on board ship. Often called "double gimbals" if they allow swing in both directions.
mainmast

The tallest mast or vertical spar of the ship; on a schooner, the mast furthest aft; on a brig, ketch or yawl the furthest foreward.
