Continental shield

Broad areas of exposed ancient crystalline rocks in the cores of the Earth's continents. These rocks are typically the oldest on the continents, many more than 2.5 billion years old.
Coastal zone

The land-sea-air interface zone around continents and islands extending from the landward edge of a barrier beach or shoreline of coastal bay to the outer extent of the continental shelf.
Alpine glacier
Earth science; Geology
Any glacier in a mountain range which is dominantly confined by the surrounding topography. It usually originates in a cirque and may flow down into a valley previously carved by a stream.
