The manipulation of images by computer. Most image-processing techniques involve treating the image as a two-dimensional signal and applying standard signal-processing techniques to it.

A quantization technique in which the range of grey levels in an image is divided into contiguous intervals such that the frequency of occurrence of each quantization level is the same.

A digital image in which the value associated with each pixel is a symbol, rather than a grey level.
