The manipulation of images by computer. Most image-processing techniques involve treating the image as a two-dimensional signal and applying standard signal-processing techniques to it.

An image operator that assigns a grey level to each output pixel based on the grey levels in a neighbourhood of the corresponding input pixel. Contrast with: point operator.
