Natural gas

Natural gas is a naturally occurring hydrocarbon gas mixture consisting primarily of methane, with up to 20 % of other hydrocarbons as well as impurities in varying amounts such as carbon dioxide. Natural gas is widely used as an important energy source in many applications including heating buildings, generating electricity, providing heat and power to industry, as fuel for vehicles and as a chemical feedstock in the manufacture of products such as plastics and other commercially important organic chemicals.

Contributors in Natural gas

Natural gas

Ring type joint (RTJ)

Energy; Natural gas

A flange connexion using a specially shaped soft metal ring as a gasket. Generally used on high pressure valves. May be the body and bonnet connexion and/or the end flange connection.

Rising stem (RS)

Energy; Natural gas

A valve stem with threads arranged so that as the stem turns, the threads engage a stationary threaded area and lift the stem along with the closure element attached to it.

Rotary actuator

Energy; Natural gas

A valve actuator that directly produces rotary motion for use with quarter-turn valves.

Safety relief valve

Energy; Natural gas

A pressure relief valve that can ben used with gases, liquids, and vapors.

Safety valve

Energy; Natural gas

A pressure relief valve designed for use with gases and vapors.

Schedule

Energy; Natural gas

A system for indicating the wall thickness of pipe. The higher the schedule number, the thicker the wall for a certain pipe size.

Scotch-yoke actuator

Energy; Natural gas

A linear-to-rotary actuator that uses a scotch-yoke mechanism to convert linear motion to rotary motion for use an quarter-turn valves.
