Plastic injection molding
Plastic injection molding is the primary process for manufacturing plastic parts used in consumer goods such as computer keyboards, monitors, bottle caps, cups and solid plastic articles. Plastic is known to be a very versatile and economical material that is used in many applications. Injection molding involves taking plastic in the form of pellets or granules and heating this material until a melt is obtained. Then the melt is forced into a split-die chamber/mold where it is allowed to "cool" into the desired shape. The mold is then opened and the part is ejected, at which time the cycle is repeated.

Plastic injection molding
Shot capacity
Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding
Generally based on polystyrene, this is the maximum weight of plastic that can be displaced or injected by a single injection stroke. Generally expressed as ounces of polystyrene.
Multidirectional flow
Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding
Flow direction changes during filling resulting in orientation in different directions which can cause flow marks, stresses and warping.
Cold flow lines
Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding
Imperfections within the part wall due to thickening or solidification of resin prior to full cavity fill.
Corona treatment
Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding
Impingement of AC power on a component to bombard with free radicals thus improving the ability to bond to a surface.
Frictional heating
Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding
Heat generated by the friction of the chains of molecules slipping past each other or over a surface.
Land (gate area)
Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding
Gate dimension parallel to the direction of melt flow.
Thermoplastic elastomers
Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding
The family of polymers that resemble elastomers in that they can be repeatedly stretched without distortion of the unstressed part shape, but are true thermoplastics and thus do not require curing.
