Resistors

Linear potentiometer

Electronic components; Resistors

A variable resistor using an adjustment that moves up and back in a straight line, as opposed to a rotational potentiometer in which the adjustment is is turned.

Ambient temperature

Electronic components; Resistors

The temperature of the air surrounding an object. The temperature used as ambient temperature in data sheets is 250C, which is different than 'room temperature'.

Sip resistor

Electronic components; Resistors

A resistor group contained within a single in-line package (SIP). One of a number of possible package styles used to hold resistor networks or resistor arrays.

Dielectric strength

Electronic components; Resistors

The ultimate breakdown voltage of the dielectric or insulation of the resistor when the voltage is applied between the case and all terminals tied together.

Equivalent resistance

Electronic components; Resistors

A resistance that represents the total ohmic values of a circuit component or group of circuit components. Usually drawn as a single resistor in a simplified circuit.

Non-established reliability (Non-ER)

Electronic components; Resistors

A resistor covered by an older military specification that does not have multi-levels of quality.

Attenuator

Electronic components; Resistors

A resistive network that produces a reduction in amplitude. Common resistor terminators include 'Pi' attenuator pads, 'L' attenuator pads, or 'T' attenuator pads.
