Solar power

Solar power is the conversion of sunlight into electricity, either directly using photovoltaics (PV), or indirectly using concentrated solar power (CSP). Concentrated solar power systems use lenses or mirrors and tracking systems to focus a large area of sunlight into a small beam. Photovoltaics convert light into electric current using the photoelectric effect.

Contributors in Solar power

Solar power

Energy contribution potential

Energy; Solar power

Recombination occurring in the emitter region of a photovoltaic cell.

Total harmonic distortion

Energy; Solar power

The measure of closeness in shape between a waveform and it's fundamental component.

Energy density

Energy; Solar power

The ratio of available energy per pound; usually used to compare storage batteries.

Total internal reflection

Energy; Solar power

The trapping of light by refraction and reflection at critical angles inside a semiconductor device so that it cannot escape the device and must be eventually absorbed by the semiconductor.

Energy levels

Energy; Solar power

The energy represented by an electron in the band model of a substance.

Tracking array

Energy; Solar power

A photovoltaic (PV) array that follows the path of the sun to maximise the solar radiation incident on the PV surface. The two most common orientations are (1) one axis where the array tracks the sun ...

Epitaxial growth

Energy; Solar power

The growth of one crystal on the surface of another crystal. The growth of the deposited crystal is oriented by the lattice structure of the original crystal.
