Solar power
Solar power is the conversion of sunlight into electricity, either directly using photovoltaics (PV), or indirectly using concentrated solar power (CSP). Concentrated solar power systems use lenses or mirrors and tracking systems to focus a large area of sunlight into a small beam. Photovoltaics convert light into electric current using the photoelectric effect.

Duty cycle
Energy; Solar power
The ratio of active time to total time. Used to describe the operating regime of appliances or loads in photovoltaic systems.
Superstrate
Energy; Solar power
The covering on the sunny side of a photovoltaic (PV) module, providing protection for the PV materials from impact and environmental degradation while allowing maximum transmission of the ...
Distributed systems
Energy; Solar power
Systems that are installed at or near the location where the electricity is used, as opposed to central systems that supply electricity to grids. A residential photovoltaic system is a distributed ...
Stratification
Energy; Solar power
A condition that occurs when the acid concentration varies from top to bottom in the battery electrolyte. Periodic, controlled charging at voltages that produce gassing will mix the electrolyte. See ...

Energy; Solar power
In a photovoltaic device, an n-type dopant, such as phosphorus, that puts an additional electron into an energy level very near the conduction band; this electron is easily exited into the conduction ...
Duty rating
Energy; Solar power
The amount of time an inverter (power conditioning unit) can produce at full rated power.
Surge capacity
Energy; Solar power
The maximum power, usually 3-5 times the rated power, that can be provided over a short time.
