Solar power

Solar power is the conversion of sunlight into electricity, either directly using photovoltaics (PV), or indirectly using concentrated solar power (CSP). Concentrated solar power systems use lenses or mirrors and tracking systems to focus a large area of sunlight into a small beam. Photovoltaics convert light into electric current using the photoelectric effect.

Contributors in Solar power

Solar power

Cutoff voltage

Energy; Solar power

The voltage levels (activation) at which the charge controller disconnects the photovoltaic array from the battery or the load from the battery.

Solar constant

Energy; Solar power

The average amount of solar radiation that reaches the earth's upper atmosphere on a surface perpendicular to the sun's rays; equal to 1353 Watts per square metre or 492 Btu per square foot.

Czochralski process

Energy; Solar power

A method of growing large size, high quality semiconductor crystal by slowly lifting a seed crystal from a molten bath of the material under careful cooling conditions.

Series regulator

Energy; Solar power

Type of battery charge regulator where the charging current is controlled by a switch connected in series with the photovoltaic module or array.

Cleavage of lateral epitaxial films for transfer (cleft)

Energy; Solar power

A process for making inexpensive Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) photovoltaic cells in which a thin film of GaAs is grown atop a thick, single-crystal GaAs (or other suitable material) substrate and then is ...

Series resistance

Energy; Solar power

Parasitic resistance to current flow in a cell due to mechanisms such as resistance from the bulk of the semiconductor material, metallic contacts, and interconnections.

Cloud enhancement

Energy; Solar power

The increase in solar intensity caused by reflected irradiance from nearby clouds.
