Solar power

Solar power is the conversion of sunlight into electricity, either directly using photovoltaics (PV), or indirectly using concentrated solar power (CSP). Concentrated solar power systems use lenses or mirrors and tracking systems to focus a large area of sunlight into a small beam. Photovoltaics convert light into electric current using the photoelectric effect.

Contributors in Solar power

Solar power

Short-circuit current (ISC)

Energy; Solar power

The current flowing freely through an external circuit that has no load or resistance; the maximum current possible.

Conduction band

Energy; Solar power

An energy band in a semiconductor in which electrons can move freely in a solid, producing a net transport of charge.

Shunt controller

Energy; Solar power

A charge controller that redirects or shunts the charging current away from the battery. The controller requires a large heat sink to dissipate the current from the short-circuited photovoltaic ...

Sine wave

Energy; Solar power

A waveform corresponding to a single-frequency periodic oscillation that can be mathematically represented as a function of amplitude versus angle in which the value of the curve at any point is ...

Copper indium diselenide

Energy; Solar power

A polycrystalline thin-film photovoltaic material (sometimes incorporating gallium (CIGS) and/or sulfur).

Sine wave inverter

Energy; Solar power

An inverter that produces utility-quality, sine wave power forms.

Crystalline silicon

Energy; Solar power

A type of photovoltaic cell made from a slice of single-crystal silicon or polycrystalline silicon.
