Airplane! is a 1980 American comedy written and directed by David Zucker, Jim Abrahams and Jerry Zucker. It stars Robert Hays and Julie Hagerty. While it received positive reviews on release, it has since appreciated in value and charts very high in polls of the greatest comedy films.

It is an absurdist spoof of the disaster movie genre. Former pilot Ted Striker, who is now scared of flying, boards a plane to try to win back his stewardess girlfriend, but during the course of the flight the majority of passengers and the pilots get food poisoning from the airline food. Ted is then tasked with taking control of the plane in the absence of the pilots and landing it safely.

It did very well at the box office, accumulating 83 million USD against a production budget of 3.5 million.
