First Mughal emperor (r.1501-30). Driven from Ferghana by the Uzbegs in 1501, he launched a series of attempts to invade India, culminating with his victory over Sultan Ibrahim Lodi at Panipat (1526). It was left to his heirs to pacify and organise his conquests.
