Battle of Thermopylae

Heroic battle fought at the pass of Thermopylae by the Greeks, under the leadership of Leonidas and his force of Spartans, against the invading Persian army of 480 BC. Eventually the Persians crossed the mountains behind the pass, but the Spartans fought to the death to buy time for the rest of their army to escape.
