Eightfold Path

The path that leads to liberation, consisting of right understanding, right aim, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration. This is the path by which one ceases to desire and thereby ceases to suffer (see dukkha). This path leads to a form of meditation which, similar to Raja Yoga in Hinduism, enables a person to reach enlightenment. The eight stages are:

  1. Right Views. # Right Intent. # Right Speech. # Right Conduct. # Right livelihood. # Right effort. # Right mindfulness. # Right concentration.
