The Missouri law that prohibits teachers from having exclusive communications with students over non-work Internet sites such as Facebook. Students are defined as anyone under 18 who attend or used to attend the school where the teacher works.

The law was proposed after an investigation found 87 Missouri teachers had lost their licences between 2001 and 2005 because of sexual misconduct, some of which involved exchanging explicit online messages with students.
