Galatasaray S.K.

Galatasaray Spor Kulübü (Galatasaray Sports Club) is a sports club based in Istanbul, Turkey, most notable for its football section, also known as Galatasaray S.K. It is the only European cup winner team in Turkey, holding the highest number of Turkish League cups along with Fenerbahce S.K., TSYD Cup, Turkish Super Cup as well as Turkish Cups. Galatasaray won the UEFA Cup and the UEFA Super Cup in 2000. Galatasaray's first emblem was a figure of a spread-winged eagle with a football in its beak, drawn by 333 Şevki Ege. This replaced in 1925 by the current "Ghayn-Sin" crest, designed by Ayetullah Emin.

The Galatasaray High School is the reason for the sport club's name, which in turn takes its name from Galata Sarayı Enderûn-u Hümâyûn (Galata Palace Imperial School), the name of the original school founded on the site in 1481, and which in turn took its name from the nearby mediaeval Genoese citadel of Galata. Galatasaray translates directly as 'Galata Palace'.
